6 Arrested in Major Chatsworth Cargo Heist

Police call suspects part of an Armenian organized theft ring.

Six men police say are linked to an Armenian organized theft ring have been arrested after allegedly plundering cargo from trucks parked in Chatsworth.

Detectives arrested Toros Tufenjian, 40, Movses Dermishyan, 23, Akop Amalyan, 26, Artak Harutyunyan, 40, Ara Hayrapetian, 39 and Miguel “Angel” Moreno, 38, all of the San Fernando Valley.

The Chatsworth theft took place Nov. 27 at Nordhoff Street and Eton Avenue, according to LAPD Topanga Division detectives. Patrol officers arrested four men attempting to steal cargo from a semi-trailer. Two of the suspects were also arrested in July in Vernon for the same crime.  Three of the suspects have posted bail, and the fourth is being held on a felony no-bail arrest warrant for a narcotics violation, police said.

This was the latest in a series of Los Angeles cargo thefts of baby furniture, toys, electronics, beer, pharmaceuticals and copper.

Millions of dollars in freight has also been stolen in Compton, Santa Clarita, and Vernon, police said.

Detectives from the LAPD Commercial Crimes Division, Cargo Theft Unit are asking anyone with information about these crimes to call Detectives Zavala or Woods at (818) 832-7510 or (818) 832-7508.  After hours and on weekends call (877) LAPD-24-7. Anonymous tips can be made at Crime Stoppers, (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
