4 Streets Responsible for 64% of All Crime in Chatsworth

There were 28 Chatsworth-area crimes, an average of almost two crimes a day.

In the latest compilation for the Police Blotter, the most crime-prone streets in  Chatsworth were Lassen Street with 5 crimes (1 crime every 3 days), De Soto Avenue with 5 crimes (1 crime every 3 days), Topanga Canyon Bouvard with 4 crimes (1 crime ever 3.75 days), and Winnetika Avenue with 3 crimes (one crime every 5 days). These four streets made up more than 64% of all the crime in Chatsworth.

During the 15 days between March 18 and April 2, there were 28 Chatsworth-area crimes, an average of almost 2 crimes a day.

There was a rise in violent crime during that period with 1 robbery, 1 aggravated assault and even 1 case of homicide in nearby Porter Ranch. However, grand theft autos, which are usually one of the top crimes in the area, experienced a light period with only two reported cases. Most cases were non-violent in nature with the overwhelming majority being thefts, burglaries, and thefts from cars.

Nine crimes occurred during overnight hours, constituting roughly 32% of crime with the remaining 19 (67%) occurring during daylight. Of these daylight crimes, 14 (50% of all crime, 73% of daytime crime) occurred during regular business hours with the remaining 5 (17% of all crime, 27% of daytime crime) occurring outside of the typical 9-to-5 schedule.

Violent crime made up 10.7% of total crime while the top crime from the last two weeks, thefts from vehicles, made up more than 35% of total crime.

The total breakdown of crime for this time period is: 10 thefts from vehicles, 8 thefts, 5 burglaries, 2 grand theft autos, 1 robbery, 1 aggravated assault, 1 homicide.

Reported crime in the Chatsworth area is low and the commonly reported crimes are easy to protect against by locking car doors, garages and homes, and hiding valuables from plain view.
