Do Not Pass Overland, Kansas for Passover

The sun will soon set as we gather around the table with our Haggadahs and begin the ritual meal of the Seder.  Passover celebrates the exodus of the Jews from the bondage of slavery, yet those bonds were given a presence yesterday in the merciless killing of three of our Jewish brethern in Overland Park, Kansas.  You see, being Jewish is 2014 is still the same as being Jewish through our history, given this built up hatred of the Jewish people.  We have been blamed for all sorts of evils and we are the subjects of some of the worse atrocities hurled upon mankind.  One would think that with all the knowledge spread amongst the Internet that anti-semitism would have subsided  The Killer from Kansas proved that there are still those that hate us so much, that death is the answer.  I do not know what set off the Killer yesterday, but I could only harken back to Buford Furrow and the Jewish Center of Granada Hills and his murder of our Chatsworth Postman, Alito.  Killing Jews has never been the Final Solution as we do flourish despite all sorts of hurdles.  We have outlived Torquemada and we have certainly vanquished Adoph Hitler, yet hate still abounds as we have seen.  Sometimes hate is in the form of epithets, sometimes it is dog waste strewn on someone's entry way.  This assault on Jews just seems to keep happening despite our best efforts to show that we are a pround and resillient people.  So, as we open our books tonight and talk about slavery under the Pharoh, let us not forget those that have perished merely because they embraced the Star of David, to which some saw as a target on a rainy day in the Midwest, and a way to make a statement. Never Again, my friends.
