The San Fernando Valley Workout, Compliments of the Orange Line

Orange Line is more than a Bus Way, It is an Opportunity to get fit

The Orange Line Extension is near completion and aside from its transit objectives, the project also provides us in the Chatsworth area with many avenues towards real fitness.  There are bike and walking paths parallel to the Orange line from Lassen south to Warner Center and then easterly through Balboa Park to the North Hollywood terminus.  The bike paths allow us to ride for over 20 miles on dedicated and paved bikeways, so less wear and tear due to pot holes and cracked street surfaces.  The additional walkways also beg for a long distance 'Tour D'SFV.' for charities and for competition for those of us who are in shape and beyond 'baby steps.' Perhaps one can reckon an equestrian trail from Chatsworth to Warner Center or Balboa Park, although I don't think horses can be transported on the buses if they get fatigued. Maybe we can have a ride from Chatsworth to the Equidome at Cow Poly in Woodland Hills?

It appears that this Orange Line extension will give us 'workout hounds' great opportunities to hit the road, either on foot or wheel and should give impetus to those who are not in shape to get moving, all to the betterment of their lives.  The walkways also have LED lit runways for nighttime excursions as well as parking alternatives for Warner Center activities.   Maybe it is time to leave those self-proclaimed personal fitness types in the dust, drop the gym membership, and hit the 'Camino de Naranja,' as it meanders through the San Fernando Valley.  Now if they just had hydration stations...
