Remembering 6-4-1968

Where were you in the late evening hours of June 4, 1968 as Robert Kennedy and Eugene McCarthy were neck and neck in the California Primary?

This was a watershed moment in our political history as California would have pushed Robert Kennedy into the presidential nomination against Richard Nixon which would have meant an end to the Vietnam War and maybe an end to the violence that would have occurred in Chicago, later on that year.

June 4th, marks another anniversary of what  could  have been under a Robert Kennedy administration boasting a platform of civil rights for minorities and women as well as a dawn of a new age.  Hopes and dreams were again dashed as another Kennedy fell victim to an assasin's bullet.

The election went to Nixon and more lives were lost in Vietnam and Cambodia.  Sirhan's bullets closed the curtain on the hopes and dreams that were characteristic of a Kennedy campaign where campaign workers were just us kids working for the ideals expressed by President Kennedy as we were spurned on by our teachers in high school.

As Robert Kennedy passed the morning of June 5, 1968, perhaps there was a passing of our hope of a better tomorrow as our idealism sunk that much more as another Kennedy brother was laid to rest.  Just think, there would not have been a Watergate and perhaps a few more American lives would have been spared as we marched upward to make our country a better place under a Robert Kennedy administration .
