Blog: The Prophylactic Effect of Measure B

Voters get to Impose new protections upon the porn industry.

The adult entertainment industry has been in the shadows for many years. So-called 'Smut Peddlers," were sought out by law enforcement just like marijuana dispensaries are today.  The stash back then included 8 millimeter films and some black and white stills. Well, the adult entertainment business is now one of the leading enterprises in our home town of Chatsworth and the San Fernando Valley.  Adult entertainment no longer creeps its way into the shadows of our society, but represent legitimate businesses which not only pay a handsome amount of city and state taxes, but these businesses are also 'job creators,' not only with actors but with office staffs and warehouses and Internet distribution centers.  Porn has also developed search engines that are now used by everyone.  I understand Porn entrepreneurs developed the search engine that downloads digital video so fast that they license their technology to studios and businesses alike.  The Porn Industry has affected lifestyles and the way people dress and conduct themselves in private. Now, Porn has become so 'run of the mill,' that the industry is subject to a cover-all measure on the ballot in November.  Measure B would mandate the use of condoms on sexually explicit shoots between men and their cohorts.  Can't tell if the measure also requires protection for women, so the law may be seen as an invalid exercise in gender discrimination.  The irony here is that this once shadowy industry has become so mainstream that it is deserving of a measure that the public can vote upon.  The proponents of the measure do so to protect porn actors and actresses from various diseases and may also create a worker's compensation standard if an actor or actress is infected due to the lack of protection or perhaps a warranty claim if the protection fails due to manufacturing defects or use not in compliance with the manufacturer's directions.Seems if the people can insert protections for the Porn Industry, that the same could be done to marijuana dispensaries, which could also provide a revenue source for our cash strapped city coffers.  Meanwhile, we will see if Measure B passes and whether Porn officianotos while opine about the effect this measure has about the quality of the genre...then again they may ignore Measure B and say "Screw it all...."
