Are We Getting Sick of Incumbents?

Yesterday's city election showed that voters are just tired of re-electing the same types who can't seem to get off the merry-go-round of political offices. We saw long time Councilman, Dennis Zine bite 'Z' dust against a relative unknown. We saw the "Nutch," nosedive in his race, and then there was Wendy Gruel, who could find corruption, but just couldn't deliver the dollars back to the public. What does all this mean? We are just sick and tired of people who stay in office way too long. City council persons really should be limited to one term. The city requires new blood and not just the same 'Chief of Staff' types who usurp all the fund raising resources, so community leaders can't contest them. More importantly, the city has to get out of our personal lives and should focus city resources on things such as fixing roads, providing fire, and police services. The city should profit from the sale of marijuana and stop treating marijuana as they treated smut-porn in the 60's and 70's. The city needs to stop focusing on cameras and passing ordeinances that allow them to confiscate things. It is the intrusion into our personal lives that turns off people to incumbents. The problem always is that incumbents have most of the financial resources, so they stay in office because most challengers simply do not have the time to fund raise constantly over 4 or 8 years. Our mayor should not be involved in LAUSD. We have a Board of Education for the oversight of the schools. Many in the valley have flown away from public schools, preferring to sell the farm to finance $20,000 a year for private elementary thru high school. Our city and state are not changing for the better and we all look to incumbents for this decided fall from grace and logic. So, next time there is an election, do vote the rascals out and think about replacing more incumbents.
