PoD... Vernal Pool

This is another one of those amazing places we have in our mountains. This pool is at SSFL, in Area IV, where they did the reactor research. Every winter these pools fill with rain water, and Fairy Shrimp are born. Amazing animals. Their eggs, called cysts, reside in the sediments left behind by the rains... In the summer, temperatures reach over 130 F on these rocks! When the rains fall, the cysts are activated and new shrimp are born. They live for however long there's water in the pool, maybe 2-3 months. The pools dry up, the process repeats. Amazing!
