Sleet in the San Fernando Valley!

Kids are having snowball fights during freak snow storm.

At 4:40 Saturday afternoon a freak snowstorm hit Studio City, causing flurries, a bit of hail, and icy thick raindrops. Meanwhile, the sun was shining in Chatsworth. No snow here.

Staff and customers at stood in the doorway snapping photos as snow fell outside on Cahuenga Boulevard. Some teenagers started a snowball fight scooping the white stuff off of cars in the parking lot in front of threstaurant.

Others gathered inside vegan ice cream store saying, “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Already the cactus gardens in the hills of Studio City were lined with patches of snow that fell earlier in the morning, and some roofs had white patches of ice and snow on top.

Across the San Fernando Valley, snow levels in the mountains were at the lowest in years.

Los Angeles snowfall can go down to 1,500 feet, and the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Southern California beginning Friday through Saturday night, with more hail and flurries possible as temperatures dip to near freezing.

Winds will gust as high as 15 mph. Areas of frost are expected after 10 p.m. with a low around 34.

On Oscar Sunday, things will warm up, and no storms are expected. The high is expected at a breezy 56 degrees.
