Quick Quake: Did You Feel It?

3.3 earthquake felt in San Fernando, Antelope, and Santa Clarita valleys.

A magnitude 3.3 earthquake, epicentered north of Santa Clarita, rattled the Antelope, Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys
Sunday.

Automated seismic devices operated by the USGS and local universities placed the 11:23 a.m. quake's epicenter near Bouquet Canyon, east of Castaic Lake.

The epicenter was officially placed 9 miles northeast of Newhall and 33 miles north-northwest of the Los Angeles Civic Center. The quake was reportedly quite shallow, about 1/2 mile below the earth's surface.

People told a USGS internet page that it was felt as a minor shake from Lancaster to East Los Angeles. It was felt by a reporter on the eighth floor of a building in West Los Angeles as two distinct thumps.
