Authorities Wednesday released the name of a man who was killed when a gunman opened fire on a car stopped on the side of a road in Northridge.
Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter identified the man as Louis Villegas, 25, of Reseda. Three of Villegas' companions were wounded, but survived the shooting, which was reported near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Parthenia Street just after midnight Tuesday.
Vellegas and the survivors, a man and two women, were in a Lexus that was parked alongside Balboa because one the occupants had to relieve himself, according to detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's Devonshire Station.
The gunman was on foot when he opened fire. At least one round struck an occupied residence, according to reports from the scene. The motive for the shooting was not immediately determined.
