Winners of the "Home As Your Kit" Video Contest Honored at City Hall...

On Tuesday, the winners of the Los Angeles Emergency Management Department’s “Home as Your Kit” Video Contest were honored at City Hall.

Sponsored by the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation and SOS Survival Products, the winning video will be used to promote preparedness on social media.

Open to individuals or team of up to 4 people, the challenge was to create a video demonstrating the use of common household materials and objects as tools in an emergency or disaster situation.

The video could not be longer than 1:30 minutes, and must contain items from at least two rooms of the house. This does NOT mean using items directly from an emergency survival kit. Contestants had to find resources throughout their living environment that could be transformed into a survival tool. The goal was to show that you can exercise emergency preparedness through being resourceful and using your “Home As Your Kit.”

The Emergency Management Department received hundreds of videos all of which had excellent ideas.

Check out the winning video submitted by Quinn Painter, Seanna Duong, Emma Walswick and Julia Woods.
