Solar Panel Company Opens Chatsworth Warehouse

A grand opening ceremony was held Thursday for SolarCity, a solar panel installation company that recently opened its sixth Southland branch at a 15,000-square-foot warehouse on Nordhoff Street.

Regional Vice President Jim Cahill said his company, launched in 2006, has nearly 2,000 clients in the area and looks forward to better serving the San Fernando Valley.

LA City Councilman Mitch Englander presented a commendation to Cahill, saying that his district is filled with forward thinking residents looking to save energy.

"This is not just about SolarCity, this is not just about Los Angeles, this is about the long term," Englander said, adding: "We've got the sun here, we've got the rooftops."

Regional Vice President Jim Cahill said his company has nearly 2,000 clients in the area and looks forwarding to better serving the San Fernando Valley.

While SolarCity has installed panels for Los Angeles Unified Schools and commercial properties like the Wal Mart in Porter Ranch, homeowners make up for most of his clients thanks to lower pricing.

"It's really become more affordable in the past six years," Cahill said. "Leasing has changed the whole game. ... You can start saving from day one without putting any cash down."

Sixty-one employees are currently staffed at the Chatsworth location of SolarCity at 21040 Nordhoff St., though Cahill said he expects to hire 15 more employees by the end of the year.
