Senior Service Firm Right at Home Opening in Chatsworth

The company has more than 300 franchise locations and offers help to elderly clients in little need of getting around to those who require constant attention.

In-home care provider Right at Home is setting up shop in Chatsworth and will offer services aiding seniors who need a little help running errands and others that may need 24-hour care.

The overall goal of the company is to serve as another option before considering a retirement home, says Eric Little, the firm's vice president.

"A lot of these things are called daily living activities that you and I take for granted, but if we can provide those services for certain seniors who need them, they can actually stay in their homes a lot longer," he said.

Right at Home is setting up a franchise office at 9458 Topanga Canyon Blvd. set to open on May 6 and will be run by former 25-year Anthem Blue Cross employee Lourdes Simons.

A Ventura County resident, Simons said her last five years on the job working in case management with the elderly and nurses inspired her to get behind the scenes of caregiving, since she's not a clinician.

"That's what I'm passionate about, helping seniors stay in their home," she said.

Little said across the 300 Right at Home sites throughout the country average about 50 caregivers on staff. He said the employee-to-client ratio is typically 1-to-1.

Simons she would start off by hiring around 15 certified, bonded and insured workers.

The first branch was launched in 1995 in Nebraska.
