Smart & Final. Patch stopped to ask workmen laboring in the former Albertsons grocery at Devonshire Street and Reseda Boulevard in Northridge what sort of business would be moving in. They said they were preparing the store to be a Smart & Final warehouse-style market.
Free People. Los Angeles's largest Urban Outfitters outlet is hitting the Westfield Shopping Center in Sherman Oaks, with a great deal of anticipation. There was a sneak peek Thursday night for special guests and it opened to the general public on Friday.
Hamburger Hamlet XP. The restaurant chain is opening shop in the NoHo Arts District in about a month at the former location of P. Gators at 11049 Magnolia Blvd. This will be the second "XP" location, which will offer a smaller menu than a full-on Hamburger Hamlet restaurant.
Rose and Sage. A women's clothing boutique has popped up at 10143 Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake and features brand names like Genetic Denim, J Brand and Hudson.
Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market. The new grocery store will be replacing the Vons on Tapo Street in Simi Valley. "A lot of people in the east end of town were going to the Wal-Mart in Chatsworth," Leigh Nixon of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce gushed to the Ventura County Star. She drew a distinction between the grocery and two other full-service Wal-Mart department stores in the area.
Beauty and the Best Boutique. After 25 years, Hayley Kuhn and her family are closing up Beauty and the Best Boutique in Studio City's Tujunga Village. She blames a poor economy and a "thrift shop mentality" and said locals haven't supported her. But, she's offering great deals through the end of the month.
