New Businesses Are Opening In Northridge, and They're Hiring

Long-vacant storefronts are starting to fill.

If you've been wondering whether the Northridge economy is picking up, there may be a few signs.

Robert Kleinhenz, chief economist with the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., recently told an area business forum that 2013 should be the year when businesses finally start to feel the economy turning around.

It could already be happening. Have you noticed the number of long-vacant large retail spaces in Northridge that are starting to fill with new businesses? Just drive around with Patch and take a look.

Big Lots! is moving into the spot formerly occupied by discounter Marshalls at 8960 Tampa Ave. And they're hiring.

Over at the Northridge Fashion Center, 9301 Tampa Ave., construction work is moving ahead rapidly on the Elephant Bar restaurant where On the Border once held sway. And they're hiring.

To the east, the Northridge Suit Outlet has opened a bright new free-standing store at 10141 Reseda Blvd. where O'Reilly Auto Parts once operated.
