McDonald's is planning to hire 50,000 new employees across the country with 3,000 being hired in Southern California's 800 restaurants beginning Tuesday.

The newest McDonald's at 9185 De Soto Ave. in Chatsworth is planning to hire eight to 10 new employees as part of the larger corporate hiring event dubbed "National Hiring Day," according to Aleko Boghoskhanian, McOpCo operations manager.

These new employees will fill seasonal, part-time, full-time and management positions needed to keep pace with McDonald's business growth, Boghoskhanian said in a e-mail.

"Fifty percent of our corporate, division and regional staff, 70 percent of our restaurant managers and 33 percent of our operators started as crew," said Boghoskhanian.

Raymond Camangian, store manager of the De Soto Street McDonald's, started as a crewperson eight years ago and is now responsible for the newly opened restaurant.

"You can grow in McDonald's and at the same time McDonald's can help you grow," said Camangian.

Having worked his way through the ranks Camangian has an open door policy and is always willing to discuss problems with his employees.

"I try and work with them and give them training so they can grow in the company as well," said Camangian.

Camangian has taken advantage of the opportunity McDonald's has provided to volunteer in the community by recently participating in the Walk for Kids charity program.

"I realized I wanted to do more in the community," said Camangian.

A spokesperson for the McDonald's location on Devonshire Street was not available to comment on participation in the "National Hiring Day."
