The Los Angeles Times, even in its slimmed-down condition, is still one of America's great newspapers. But, if you want to read it starting Labor Day, you're going to have to fork over a Buck a day.

The Sunday issue will go up from $1.50 to $2.

The newspaper, which is owned by the bankrupt Tribune Co., bumped its daily price two years ago from 50 cents to 75 cents. The paper, much like its counterparts in the industry, has been battered by the economic downturn and the move by consumers to read articles for free online.

The paper has gone through series after series of layoffs and seen its circulation erode in recent years. Spokeswoman Nancy Sullivan says the rate hike is in line with the paper's competitors.

Huffington Post contributed to this report.
