Kaiser Permanente Abandons Plans for New Chatsworth Offices

The proposed facility could have housed 57 offices offering a variety of medical services.

Kaiser Permanente has pulled the plug on opening an 83,000-square-foot facility in Chatsworth over undisclosed "environmental concerns."

The healthcare provider was in the process of purchasing a plaza at 9733-9835 Mason Ave. that it planned to tear down in order to build a structure housing 57 offices and 468 parking spaces.

"The overall findings of this review, as well as their impact on a proposed construction schedule to complete the new medical office, led Kaiser Permanente leadership to decide to terminate the purchase contract for this site," said Richard Trogman, Chief Operating Officer, Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills.

He would not comment on the details of the environmental concerns.

Phone calls to the lot's owner, Proodos Properties in Ventura County, were not answered.

Kaiser had already presented a design draft of the proposed development to the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council board of directors and expected construction to begin in 2015.

If the project were to come to fruition, pediatrics, family medicine, OBGYN, dermatology and cardiology services would have been offered at the new facility as well as a pharmacy.

"While we can’t disclose specific information about current land searches, we can tell you that Kaiser Permanente is continually looking for additional locations across the west San Fernando Valley to will help us continue to serve the needs of our members," Trogman said.

Trogman and Gail Knight, chief administrative officer, will be speaking at the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council board of director's meeting at 7 p.m. at Lawrence Middle School. 10100 Variel Ave.
