Italian Eatery Sergio's Closes After Decades in Chatsworth

After decades of serving up pizza pies in Chatsworth, Sergio's has shuttered to make way for a Vietnamese pho restaurant.

Patch investigated rumors that the eatery would be closing over the spring by speaking with employees, but none new when the last day of business would be.

Some loyal customers wrote on Yelp that Sergio's starting moving furniture out around the end of June.

"I am heartbroken to report that this sweet little place is CLOSED. It had been there my entire childhood at the corner of Owensmouth and Devonshire, and my dad used to take us kids there for dinner constantly," wrote Yelp reviewer Katharine W., an Oak Park resident. "It was your basic family-run pizza and pasta joint. Never a long wait to be seated, always friendly service, always clean and tidy and my brothers and I loved the food."

The Vietnamese noodle soup cuisine known as pho will replace the Italian restaurant, though an opening date has yet to be set.

A new sign replacing Sergio's indicates the spot will be called Pho Saigon.
