Artificial Pancreas Developed in Northridge Approved by FDA

Medtronic has become the first medical technology company in the US to create a working artificial kidney awarded with the FDA's OK, the Los Angeles Business Journal reports.

Created at the firm's Northridge lab and designed with diabetics in mind, the MiniMed 530G  can "automatically stop insulin delivery when blood sugar drops below a preset level."

Already available in Europe, more than 1,500 staff employees worked on the project, according to the Journal.
