Shots Fired at Police After Pursuit

An armed robbery sparked a pursuit that ended with gunfire Monday in the Reseda area, leaving one officer with minor injuries and two people in custody, and a third detained.

The chase ended around 5 p.m. near Strathern Street and Tampa Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department Detective Gus Villanueva.

It began in the 7300 block of Reseda Boulevard, near Sherman Way, with a robbery of a medical marijuana dispensary, said Lt. Andy Neiman of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

A police helicopter over the scene of the original crime located the suspects a short time later, Neiman said.

Gunfire rang out at the end of the pursuit, leaving a patrol car riddled with bullets, and one officer suffering injuries from glass that apparently flew into an eye.

One suspect was taken into custody at the end of the pursuit, another was detained, and a third was found about 7:30 p.m. by police dogs from the Metro Division.

A weapon was recovered, and a tactical alert was called, allowing supervisors to hold officers beyond their shifts, police said.

A person in a car involved in a collision at the end of the pursuit did not suffer major injuries, Neiman said.
