Road rage or street racing was suspected as the cause of a three-vehicle collision in Northridge that killed two people and seriously injured four others, authorities said.

A pickup truck and a sedan were speeding in the 8300 block of Tampa Avenue near Roscoe Boulevard shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the crash occurred, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The sedan collided with a minivan, according to reports from the scene.

The man driving the pickup truck and an 18- or 19-year-old female pedestrian died at hospitals, said Officer Olga Arriaga of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division, which was investigating the crash. The age of the pickup truck driver was not available this morning.

The crash also injured two other women who were on the sidewalk when they were struck by one of the vehicles, Arriaga said.

A total of six people were taken to hospitals, Humphrey said.

"Witnesses have advised us that there was an incident going on between the two cars," Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Maureen Ryan told reporters at the scene. "Both cars were described as traveling 80 to 90 mph."

No one was arrested and the crash remains under investigation, Arriaga said.
