Sunday Is Valley Artists Day at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot

See the art and meet the artists at the outdoor show.

The weather is expected to be beautiful this weekend in Chatsworth, just perfect to go to an outdoor art show.

An interesting variety of original art works by Valley artists will be seen this Sunday at the Depot Art Show at the Metrolink depot, 10041 Old Depot Plaza Rd. in Chatsworth. There's free admission and free parking.

The depot provides lots of space to meander through the art booths and talk to the artists. There's also the small Whistle Stop Café in the station lobby.  This charming atmosphere will also have live music in the background, and, of course, to the delight of the kids, the trains coming and going.

The artists displaying in the show are local, coming from the San Fernando, Simi, and the Santa Clarita valleys. Their styles vary from realism, to impressionism, to abstract artworks. The artists work in a variety of media: paintings, prints, watercolors, charcoal and graphite, and mixed media works. Represented are sculpture, photography, glass works, jewelry, and occasional fine crafts. Most of the work is for sale, and many of the artists do have prints available.

The Depot Show also offers visitors an opportunity to participate.  Visitors can vote for the Favorite Artist Award. Other awards will be given to specific artworks, all based on visitor voting. The People’s Choice Art Competition and a special themed exhibit will be on display inside the depot. Kids get to participate, too, at the show’s free children’s art project booth.

The Chatsworth Fine Arts Council (CFAC) has been holding art events at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot since 1998 and, with the exception of a year or two, the Depot Art Show has been an annual event. Formed by a group of artists and art supporters, the nonprofit CFAC is dedicated to the advancement of the visual arts within the local community.  It focuses on exhibition exposure for West Valley artists, and opportunities for the community to view and experience art created by their neighbors.

The Outdoor Art Show will take place this Sunday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot, 10041 Old Depot Plaza Rd. For more information call 818-772-1638 or send an email to Cindy Medlin at chatsworth-artsw@att.net.
