The orchestra's outstanding musicians come from China and abroad. To date, the orchestra has performed in more than 30 countries at such prestigious venues as the Barbican in London, the Berlin Philharmonic and New York's Avery Fisher Hall. In what was reported internationally as a concert that bridged cultural and political differences, the CPO performed Mozart’s Requiem honoring Pope Benedict VIX at the Vatican in 2008.

Long Yu is a conductor of international renown, having led several major orchestras in Europe and Asia. Among the many world-class musicians with whom he has worked are Itzhak Perlman, Cho-Liang Lin, Placido Domingo and Sergiu Commisiona. Yu also directed the orchestra in its two recordings for Deutsche Grammophon.
