Chatsworth Turns Out for Art Show

30 local artists showcase their work at the Metrolink train depot.

The 2011 Depot Art Show kicked off Sunday with 30 local artists' work showcased at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot.

The art show was launched by the Chatsworth Fine Arts Council, a non-profit art organization, in 1997 to give local artists opportunities to exhibit their works.

"There are not a lot of art galleries in the West Valley, so we had a feeling that we needed to do something to help create more exhibition opportunities," Cindy Medlin, president of the council said.

"People who live in the West Valley can see the art created by people who live in the West Valley."

Many artists participating in the show have been with the organization since its inception in the late 1990s.

Lorraine Streiby, who uses water color and acrylic paint to show snapshots of Los Angeles in her work, said the event has become more than a venue to showcase and sell her artworks.

"Artists often don't even get enough attention.  But through events like this, we get a lot of support from the local community," Streiby said.

The Chatsworth Metrolink Depot has been home to the art show because there is sufficent outdoor space for many booths and tables for artists, and access to artworks for everyone.
