Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Canoga Park

The special events get underway Sept. 15th with the final monthly ARTrageous Art Walk.

Happy 100th Birthday, Canoga Park!

Organizers are planning community events all year long to celebrate the founding of Canoga Park in 1912.

The celebration kicks off with this year’s final monthly ARTrageous Art Walks on Thursday Sept. 15th. With street music, art displayed in stores, food trucks and vendors one can spend a very enjoyable evening. You can visit each of the stores that have opened their doors to the artists so they could exhibit their works.  Along the way you can also visit the Canoga Owensmouth Historical Museum.  Many of the visitors on previous walks did not even know that the community had one.

There will be free refreshments, and Country Style Dancers.  The Canoga Park Women’s Club is the oldest woman’s organization in the west San Fernando Valley and is a major part of the community’s history. The clubhouse is located at 7401 Jordan Ave., Canoga Park.

The festivities continue in the Fall with the creation of a Time Capsule with contents capturing what Canoga Park  is all about.  The Neighborhood Council will be looking to schools and community groups to contribute to the capsule so those in 2112 will know what Canoga Park was like in 2012.

After the holidays, Cavaretta’s will be working with Non-Profits in the community and sponsor a 100-foot sandwich to be built just in time for Superbowl Sunday.

March 24, 2012 , will be the big celebration – a black tie event which is still being planned.  We do know that it will be BIG!

The Canoga Park Film Festival will begin in June 2012. Working with the Clyde Porter Theatre and Columbia College of Film, this festival will include short and long original films.

Inbetween are the events that Canoga Park always provides the community, they include; the St. Patrick’s Day March, The Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade, and Dia delos Muertos.
