Art Is Displayed in Chatsworth Train Depot Windows

Chatsworth Fine Arts Council artists show their work where commuters can see it.

A revolving display of local artists is on view in the windows of the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot to the right of the main lobby entrance.   Featured until the end of August are works by winners of the Favorite Artist Awards at the June Depot Art Show.

First Place artist, Christina Lynn Johnson, a versatile painter and fused glass artist from West Hills, is showing both her unique glass pieces, “Amber Onyx,” and a watercolor painting titled “Streambed at Switzer’s Camp.” Johnson enjoys the contrast of her experimental, abstract, glass pieces compared to the more traditional watercolor paintings and the richly blended colors of her dye-on-silk paintings. This is the second year in a row that she has won First Place in the Favorite Artist Awards.

Second Place artist, Michelle McGrath, is a painter from Simi Valley, who enjoys painting California landscapes and florals in both oil and watercolor.  In the Depot Window Display, Michelle is showing two seascape watercolors, “Calm Coast” and “Peaceful Ending.” One of her seaside oil paintings is also pictured to the right.

Third Place artist, Cindy Medlynn, is a multimedia sculptor and photographer from Chatsworth who finds her artistic inspiration in landscape.  “Anasazi Bridge,” one of her multimedia sculptured landscapes, is in the exhibit. While her one-of-a-kind sculptured landscape pieces give the appearance of being solid rock, they are actually multimedia clay sculptures incorporate some natural found elements. She is also showing one of her landscape photographs, “Shoshone Falls.”

Honorable Mention artists: Carole Raschella, of Northridge, is showing her graphite painting, “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys”; Gail Benton, of Chatsworth, is showing her watercolor work titled “Madison County”; and Charonda Taylor, also of Chatsworth is showing her mixed media and charcoal portrait piece, “Roots.”

Says Chatsworth Fine Arts Council board member Bunny Levine, “We think that the train commuters will get a pleasant surprise discovering an art exhibit to view while they wait for their trains, but we hope that the community will also stop by the Depot regularly to view the monthly art exhibits.” The Chatsworth Metrolink Depot is located at 10040 Old Depot Plaza Road.

The Chatsworth Fine Arts Council is a nonprofit visual arts support organization which presents various art shows and art events in the Chatsworth community, including the annual outdoor Depot Art Show, since 1998.
