UPDATE: Wendy Greuel Saddles-Up for Trail Ride in Chatsworth

Local equestrians host the mayoral candidate at the Davis Ranch.

Mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel took to Chatsworth's trails Saturday.

The ride, which began at the Davis Ranch at Chatsworth Street and Canoga Avenue, was organized by equestrian Dorothy Allison, a Chatsworth resident and a representative on the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council. The Davis Ranch has been a Chatsworth fixture for at least 58 years.

Greuel, who grew up in Granada Hills and is a Studio City resident, is currently city controller.

She is one of 14 people seeking to replace Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa when he leaves office next year. The other most prominent candidates include City Council members Eric Garcetti and Jan Perry, and former prosecutor Kevin James.

The ride left Davis Ranch at 1:30 p.m., headed to Stoney Point Ranch and out through their back gate into Chatsworth Park North. The route then followed the trail up to the memorial plaque honoring the victims of the Metrolink crash.

Greuel saw the Chumash petroglyphs in the park, and then the group rode past Chatsworth Trails Park and took a short loop trail back to Canoga Avenue, returning to Davis Ranch as raindrops were starting to fall.

During the ride Greuel asked about preserving equestrian land rights, the Rim of the Valley Trail and other issues of concern to equestrians.

Jeanne Plumb provided refreshments.
