This Year's Haunted Yard at the Goldbergs Might Be the Last

A local Halloween staple since 2000, a Chatsworth family thinks this might be the final time they dress up their lawn with lots of spooky decorations and feature a live music show.

This Oct. 31 might be the last time Chatsworth gets to enjoy one of its long-running Halloween traditions.

For the past 13 years, the Goldberg family at 22050 Mayall St. has transformed its front yard into a haunted lawn covered with elaborate and frightening decorations with plenty of candy to go around.

But the costs have been adding up, leading the family's matriarch to believe this year's event might be the finale, though she likes to remain hopeful.

"It may not be, it might turn around," said Risa Goldberg.

For the past three years, her son has entertained the nearly 250-300 people that stop by each Halloween with live music.

"It's more pop rock," Goldberg said. "He's been in a different band each year, but this year it's his band."

She says her favorite holiday has always been Halloween and that she has enjoyed every second of entertaining her neighbors, especially the little ones.

"I love the kids' reactions," Goldberg said. "It makes them happy, you get a kick out of watching them."

Though her yard seems pretty stocked right now with decorations, there's still plenty more to be put up by Halloween, she said.

People usually start stopping by around 6 p.m. and the last guests leave around 10:30 p.m.

Goldberg said one of her favorite memories was from a few years back when some of her neighbors put Chaise lounges on their own lawns to enjoy the live music.

"They actually met neighbors they haven't met before, so they were thanking us," she said. "That's why you do it, because other people enjoy it."

Have you ever checked out the Goldberg's place on Halloween?
