PHOTOS: Hikers Hit Santa Susana Trails

Local residents get a tour of the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park.

When the state budget crisis became acute, and the governor threatened to shut the , volunteers stepped forward to operate the park. Then the California Parks Foundation came through with for fiscal year 2012-2013.

So, in celebration, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana Mountains held Santa Susana Trails Day on Saturday, offering local residents a guided tour of the park.

There were education stations, hiking opportunities, lessons in Chumash history and cowboy movie lore, herpetology exhibits, stagecoach and railroad history talks and a visit to the Chatsworth rock quarry.
