PHOTOS: 50 Hike the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park
On March 9, there will be a hike up the historic Devil's Slide section of the old Butterfield "California Line" Stagecoach Trail to celebrate Chatsworth's 125th Anniversary.
More than 50 hikers and few leashed dogs enjoyed the clear day and warm weather Saturday on a two mile Welcome Hike led by Dr. Elizabeth Harris.
Wildflowers are just beginning to color the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park's landscape, but the main attraction on this hike was the park itself. Park volunteer Harris led the group to a number of the park's unique features and explained their history.
This hike is the latest in a series of introductory hikes in this cultural and historical treasure that lies right in Chatsworth's back yard. The Foundation for the Preservation of the Santa Susana Mountains, which sponsors the Santa Susana Volunteers, also leads Interpretive Hikes for elementary school third-graders, as part of school curriculum on California history and Native American culture.
