Orange Line Expansion Wins Architectural Award

The brains behind the recently expanded Metro Orange Line were presented with the Community Impact Award at the 43rd Annual Los Angeles Architecture Awards.

The Los Angeles Business Council, which organizes the event, recognized the four-mile expansion that's a dedicated roadway for articulated buses for its green features and other numerous community benefits.

"The Lassen Street Bridge utilizes LED lighting with a lightweight architectural treatment to form an undulating curvilinear representation of the surrounding hillside and community," according to a press release This solution enhances the overall transit experience by weaving itself into the urban fabric of the western San Fernando Valley."

The Orange Line expansion opened in June 2012 and runs from Chatsworth to Canoga Park. The project was among 30 other architecture award recipients.
