Chatsworth Holiday Parade Steps Off 1 p.m. Sunday on Devonshire Street

L.A. Kings' Bob Miller named Grand Marshal of the annual festivities.

Bob Miller, play-by-play announcer for hockey's Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings, will be the Grand Marshal of this year's Chatsworth Holiday Parade.

The Kiwanis-organized parade and festival will feature floats with the theme "Under the Sea," marching bands, clowns, horse teams, live music, food, booths, arts and crafts, games, photos with Santa Claus and a Kid's Zone. The fun begins at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9, on Devonshire Street between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Mason Avenue.

Hundreds of classic cars will be on display on Canoga Avenue between Devonshire and Lassen streets.

Miller would be in his 40th season as the “Voice of the Kings” -- the first 17 years simulcast on TV and radio and the last 22 years as the exclusive television voice of the team, except, this year the National Hockey League and the players are in a labor dispute.

Talks between the NHL and the NHL Players' Assn. has gone to federal mediators. The league locked out players on Sept. 15 and has thus far canceled games through Dec. 14.

Miller, of West Hills, has a star on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame and authored the book, Tales from the Los Angeles Kings. A recipient of the NHL Professional Broadcasters’ Association's Foster Hewitt Award, he is recognized by a plaque in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

A native of Chicago, Miller, 74, was inducted into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame, where he serves as that organization’s president. He was also inducted into California Sports Hall of Fame, the Wisconsin’s Hockey Hall of Fame and the Kings Hall of Fame.

Miller has been named the top television play-by-play announcer in Southern California eight times. National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association also twice named him the California Sportscaster of the Year.

And he was honored by the Kings with a “lifetime contract.”

Along with his duties for the Kings, Miller’s voice can be heard on TV and film projects, including Cheers, Rollerball, Miracle on Ice, The Mighty Ducks and The Mighty Ducks 2.
