In celebration of Go Green Night, Waste Management of Southern California will be giving away reusable bags that are made from 20% post-industrial recycled content to the first 5,000 fans at the game. Additionally, a special Waste Management Go Green contest will give one lucky fan the chance to play the “Go Green Around the World” game to walk away with extra cash in their pocket.
As part of Go Green Night, the Sparks and Waste Management of Southern California have teamed up for the third annual “Bag Your Shoes” campaign that encourages fans to bring new or gently-used shoes and sneakers to donate and contribute to the re-use cycle. The Bag Your Shoes campaign will take place during three Sparks home games: August 16, August 25 and August 27. Fans who bring shoes to STAPLES Center to donate will receive an eco-friendly Sparks/Waste Management water bottle courtesy of Waste Management of Southern California, as well as a raffle ticket for a chance to serve as an honorary coach at an upcoming Sparks home game.
All shoes collected will be donated to Goodwill Southern California. The collection station will be located outside the Star Plaza Entrance (southeast side of arena) at STAPLES Center.
The Sparks and Waste Management of Southern California have been in partnership since 2008, helping to make the Los Angeles community a greener and cleaner environment for everyone.
Metro serves as transportation planner and coordinator, designer, builder and operator for one of the country’s largest, most populous counties. The agency’s commitment to a better environment begins with public transit but goes well beyond bus and rail service to green solutions such as alternative fuels, emissions controls, bike and rideshare programs, electric vehicle charge stations, countywide planning, and the new ExpressLanes. Metro ExpressLanes reduce traffic congestion and air pollution emissions on the 10 and 110 freeways and benefit the environmental justice communities located adjacent to these corridors.
