HUMAN RIGHTS BANQUET FEATURING CNN HERO BETTY MAKONI
The Girl Child Network (GCN) Club and the Friends of Rights, Equality, and Emancipation (FREE) Club at Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, California invite the community to an evening dedicated to the pursuit of human rights both at home and abroad. We are honored to announce Betty Makoni, CNN Hero and Founder of the Girl Child Network, as the keynote speaker. The Girl Child Network's mission is to support and promote girls’ rights, empowerment, and education by reaching out to and advancing the circumstances of African girls who are economically deprived, at risk of abuse, subject to harmful cultural practices, or living in areas of instability. The FREE Club is affiliated with the Human Rights Watch Student Task Force, a youth leadership-training program that brings together high school students and educators from the Los Angeles area and empowers them to advocate for human rights issues, especially the rights of children.
Date: Thursday, December 6th
Location: The Founders Union
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
The Banquet will begin immediately after Sierra Canyon's Annual Winter Art Expo. A light dinner and other refreshments will be served. We sincerely hope that you will join us for an evening that is sure to be both empowering and inspirational.
