CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE MARK REED CALLS FOR FEDERAL INVESTIGATION INTO ANTI SEMITIC
INCIDENTS ON UC CAMPUSES
On the anniversary of the Holocaust, District 30 Congressional Candidate, Mark Reed, is calling on Congressmen Howard Berman and Brad Sherman to demand a Federal investigation into the Anti-Semitism and racism that is rampant throughout UC system.
Incidents of Anti Semitic behavior, intimidation and harassment of students has plagued University of California (UC) campuses for years and is fueled by tenured Professors who encourage anti Semitic rhetoric and often refuse to present speakers who bring a positive perspective to Israel.
California State University- Northridge (CSUN) Mathematics Professor David Klein, a Founding member of the Academic Boycott of Israel Campaign uses CSUN’s website to sport pictures of dead and bloodied babies and make false and misleading statements to further his own anti-Israel political agenda.
In June 2009, AMCHA Initiative co-founder Tammi Rossman-Benjamin filed a 29-page complaint against University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC) with the Office for Civil Rights U.S. Department of Education. Although the complaint was opened for investigation in March 2011, there has been no resolution to date.
Most recently, the AMCHA Initiative has written to UC administrators expressing concern about UCLA Professor David Delgado Shorter for his promotion of the academic and cultural boycott of Israel on his official UCLA class website.
“This is an unacceptable use of taxpayer’s money and jeopardizes the very essence of student safety but does not “provide and sustain an environment conducive to sharing, extending, and critically examining knowledge and values, and to furthering the search for wisdom,” noted Reed who found that statement on CSUN’s website and quoted it.42 U.S.C §§ 2000d states that funding of any institution of public education that allows such “hate” must be halted and can be subject to federally sanctioned lawsuits and indictment as well.
Internal Revenue Code (26 U.S.C. § 501(c) Section 501(c)(3) provides that organizations are subject to limits or absolute prohibitions on engaging in political activities. Under 28 USC § 535(a)(b), upon complaint, the Attorney General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation may investigate any violation of Federal Criminal Law.“Under 18 USC §1510, both Berman and Sherman have a sworn obligation to their constituents to refer any complaint of possible violation of federal laws to the attorney general's office.
District offices: Brad Sherman: Phone: (818) 501-9200 Howard Berman: Phone: (818) 994-7200. "Both of their offices have been notified over the last year and no action has been taken,” said Reed. “The First Amendment does not protect various obscenities, defamation, breach of the peace and incitement to crime, nor "fighting words," and sedition.” The Supreme Court has said false speech deserves little, if any, First Amendment Protection.
Reed is urging parents, students, alumni, faculty and stakeholders to contact their Congressmen and demand that Attorney General Eric Holder investigate the inappropriate use of publicly funded UC campus websites that allow tenured Professors to espouse false and inflammatory rhetoric under the guise of “academic freedom.
