LETTER: Be Alert to Knock-Knock Burglars

"We need more people to be aware so that 1-877-ASK LAPD can be called."

Editor:

I grew up in Chatsworth and loved the area.  I’m amazed at the amount of break-ins lately and was wondering what we can do to  make people aware that these knock-knock burglers are not a fluke thing and they are targeting Chatsworth residents.

On Nov. 19 my parents were broken into.  They live around 20500 Kingsbury.

Last Thursday, Jan. 10 , another Kingsbury neighbor was broken into and that same day a home near Plummer and Topanga was also burglarized.

We have heard about these knock-knock burglars since last summer but they are becoming a daily ritual.  People need to be aware of a few things:  If you’re home – you will see these burglars as they come to your home and ask you some weird question: food donations or that they are looking for someone and have the wrong address.  They are nicely dressed.  They come in all shapes and sizes (kids to adults and different ethnicities).

People need to at least yell though the door that they are on the phone – if they don’t want to open the door.  These people are looking for empty homes.

Use dogs, alarms and video cameras.

We need more people to be aware so that 1-877-ASK LAPD can be called before they strike.  On the other hand, the officer that came to our home said they get arrested and are right back on the streets to do another crime.
