Hot Pockets Cool Down; 103 Layoffs in Chatsworth

'There’s a change in consumer demand,' spokesman says.

Merry Christmas. Happy New Year. And Goodbye!

Nestlé USA will lay off 103 Chatsworth employees on February 1, according to the San Fernando Valley Business Journal.

The Chatsworth facility at 9601 Canoga Ave. will chop production from six days a week to four.

Folks just are't buying as many Hot Pockets frozen sandwiches as before, Roz O’Hearn, spokesperson for Nestlé Prepared Foods, told the Business Journal.

“The economy has affected the frozen food business,” O’Hearn said. “The prices of ingredients have increased and there’s a change in consumer demand.”

Nestlé broke the news to employees in December. The schedule changes eliminated the need for the current number of employees, O’Hearn told the Business Journal.

The plant currently employs 645 workers.

Last year Nestlé Nutrition closed its plant in Minnesota, cutting nearly 250 jobs in a span of two years.

This is Bull! Just using this as a lame excuse so they can make more money! This always happens when the media tells us our economy is bad. Big companies use this excuse so they can lay off people so they can make more money. I will be boycotting their products! There will come a time when they will close down and move to some other country which I think they have done with one of their plants already. Shame on them!

Cat c: I don't think I've read anything more absurd. Your "occupy," mindset is so off base.

We've tried the Hot Pockets. They are horrible. I think people used to buy them for a quick kid-food. Then guilt set in because they are not a healthy food item. There is so much more to choose from now. Just my opinion.
