Slain Goalie Recalled at Ice Rink Fundraiser
Francisco Rodriguez was buried at Chatsworth's Oakwood Memorial Park.
Friends and classmates of Francisco Rodriguez, the El Camino Real High School soccer goalie slain on the lawn outside his home Jan. 11, held a memorial and skating fundraiser Sunday at Woodland Hills Ice.
"It feels good. It's not gonna bring my brother back, but it makes us feel good that he was loved, and he is loved," Rodriguez's sister Jessica told KABC-TV's Amy Powell.
Another fundraiser will begin 4 p.m. today at Chili's, 6775 Fallbrook Ave, West Hills. [See the flier in the photo box.]
Rodriguez was buried Friday at Chatsworth's Oakwood Memorial Park cemetery following a service at Our Lady of the Valley in Canoga Park.
Jason Schumann, 24, was charged last Wednesday with murder in connection with the shooting. A second suspect in the killing, 19-year-old Elizabeth Ibarra, was not charged, but remained jailed on an alleged probation violation. Both are from Calabasas.
Rodriguez had returned home from a soccer game during which El Camino Real played Taft High School to a scoreless tie. Police said a red-haired woman or girl knocked on the family's door around 6 p.m. and asked for the teen by name. When he went outside, he was shot and fatally wounded.
Donations to help with funeral costs can be made to the "Francisco Rodriguez Memorial Account" by sending checks to the Real So Cal soccer club at:

What the hell do u mean she's not getting chargerd??? Probation violation my ass!!! She needs to be charged, given the fact that she was an accomplice to a murder of an innocent person that ambition and motivation in life!!! Is this how our justice system works???..... A slap on the wrist for helping to kill a student with goals in life??? Crazy if u ask me. They should both get tried n charged, not just one. As for the family... Prayers will always be with them.
