Candidates Meet in Debate as City Election Nears

Mayoral campaign turns from nasty to nice at Los Angeles Valley College.

With about two weeks left before the March 5 election, the campaign turned from nasty to nice Saturday at the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils mayoral debate.

It was the second event on the bill at Los Angeles Valley College. The undercard featured city controller candidates Cary Brazeman, Ron Galperin, and Dennis Zine taking shots at each other, with Zine fending off most of the punches.

But the crowd was there to hear the heavyweights, Eric Garcetti, Wendy Greuel, Jan Perry, Kevin James and Emanuel Pleitez, who want to be mayor of Los Angeles. If they expected a slugfest, they didn't get it, as the well-rehearsed candidates danced about the ring bobbing and weaving, but making their positions clear.
