Major Debate Tuesday Night

Tuesday night's debate between congressional candidates at the Temple Judea is expected to attract a large crowd. Excluded candidate vows to make herself available.

The major political event this week will be the Jewish Journal debate involving Reps. Howard Berman and Brad Sherman, both democrats in a heavily democratic district that includes Sherman Oaks.

Republican Mark Reed will also participate in the session which will be held at the Temple Judea in Tarzana Tuesday night at 7:30p.m. Temple Judea is located at 5429 Lindley Avenue.

A fourth congressional candidate, Republican Susan Shelley, was not included in the event. Shelley issued a statement claiming that she will be available to speak with reporters and voters before and after the event.

The Jewish Journal did not exclude the other Republican however used several indicators for participation in the debate. Based on three separate polls that have been conducted by reputable pollsters that show I'm within single digits of Sherman and double digits above Berman. Another poll of independents' only including Sherman, Berman, myself and a Independent candidate shows that I'm within 5% of Sherman and double digits above Berman and an Independent. They also used endorsements, money and Political Organization. As of today Susan Shelley has not filed with the Federal Elections Commission. If Susan Shelley continues on she will only guarantee no Republican will move on to the November election. Our primary is no longer a primary but a general election with a runoff in November of the top two vote getters. She really needs to ask herself what is best for the District, her vote for one of the incumbents or a real shot for the Republican party.

I was at the debate last night and Congressman Berman was the clear winner. After the debate, his supporters were all over the place, shaking hands, smiling, giving high fives; clearly happy with the performance of their candidate. I didn't see too many Brad Sherman or Mark Reed supporters after the event (other than those working on their campaign). I do agree with Mark Reed here, however, that the only shot the Republicans will have is if there is only one in the race and even then it's a really long shot.
